A Closer Look at Noise Canceling Headphones

Author: Administrator
Have you ever wanted to block outside noise? Do you often find yourself turning up the volume on your music so you can hear it over the sounds around you? If the answer is yes, then you may appreciate noise canceling headphones. What Are Noise Canceling Headphones?Noise canceling headphones are headphones that block out unwanted noise. For example, if youre sitting on an airplane or a bus the headphones will block out the sound of the engine. In addition to making the listening experience more pleasant, they also make it possible to turn the volume down. Lower volume reduces the risk of hearing damage. Studies have also shown that noise cancellation headphones reduce cortisol levels produced from constant low level noise produced from things like traffic. Two Types of Noise CancellationThere are two types of noise cancellation headphones. The first type of noise blocking is called passive noise cancellation. The headphones are created in a manner that they are form fitting to your ears. They are often heavily padded and this physical construction blocks sound from getting to your ear. Its almost like placing two pillows over your ears. All sound is blocked except the sound you want to listen to.The second type of noise cancellation is called active noise cancellation. With active noise cancellation, ANC, there is a microphone inside your headphones that plays a sound in addition to whatever youre listening to. On the outside of the headphones there is a device that listens to the ambient noise and then creates an opposing sound in your ear. The opposing sound cancels out the ambient noise so all you hear is what you want to hear. There are pros and cons to both types of noise cancellation. Both do allow users to listen without interruption. Physical noise cancellation can be dangerous because it essentially sound proofs your ears. You may not hear emergency sounds. This can be problematic if youre using them while driving, riding your bike or walking. Active noise cancellation headphones add an additional sound into your ear. Some people may hear a hiss or static like sound alongside their audio. However, active noise cancellation does allow users to hear emergency sounds because its blocking constant noise rather than sudden noises like a honk or a siren.Where Can You Use Noise Cancellation Headphones?Noise cancellation headphones are ideal for public transportation. Whether youre flying on a plane, traveling on a bus or sitting on a subway car, they can block out the often loud sounds of the motor. They can also help reduce the noise made by your fellow passengers. Additionally, if you live in an area with constant low level noise then they can be helpful. If you enjoy listening to music or audio programs and often find that outside noise interferes, then noise cancellation headphones are an effective solution. They increase your listening pleasure.
